SpVgg Griesheim 02
The SpVgg Griesheim 02 is a football club from the western district Griesheim from Frankfurt am Main , who played an important role in the 1950s in the top amateur classes.
history
In Griesheim, which is characterized by industrial plants and workers' apartments, the FC Alemannia was founded on May 4th 1902 as the first football club . This club was one of the founding members of the Hessen District League in 1919/20. The "Griesemer" in the west of Frankfurt merged in 1923 with the FV Viktoria to form Spielvereinigung 02 .
Immediately after the Second World War in 1945/46, the game association belonged to the Landesliga Großhessen-West and ended up in the promotion round to the 1st amateur league Hessen in 1950 . Not athletically qualified, but with the introduction of the II. Division in the south, additional places became available, as the 02er climbed into the Hessian amateur upper house for round 1950/51. The “black and whites” were a force in the next few years, especially on the local “Ascheplatz” on Griesheimer Eichenstraße. In the debut year 1950/51, Griesheim 02 finished in 6th place in the table behind Olympia Lampertheim , Borussia Fulda , FC Hanau 93 , SC Kassel 03 and Rot-Weiss Frankfurt . In 1954 Erwin Stein and brother Walter came to Eichstrasse from Olympia 07 and quickly developed into a striker who was more dangerous than average. In the round of 1957/58 this was reflected in the Griesheimers' fifth place with 30:26 points. When the center forward was able to improve his quality even further the following year, and the game union came to 42:18 points, even promotion to the 2nd division south was within reach. In the end, VfL Marburg prevailed with a point ahead of 02 and Erwin Stein signed a contract with German champions Eintracht Frankfurt for the Oberliga Süd for the 1959/60 round .
In April and May 1959, the goalscorer had received appointments to DFB teams: on April 15 to the amateur national team , on May 20 to the senior national team and on May 27 to the amateur team for the second time. The DFB teams scored five goals in the three international matches - Erwin Stein was the sole goalscorer.
In the second year after losing the star striker, 1960/61, the 02er suffered relegation from the amateur league Hessen. The return to the Hessenliga could never be realized afterwards. Currently (2016/17) SpVgg Griesheim 02 plays in the group league Frankfurt West.
