Spielberg is, along with Schlierbach , Udenhain , Hellstein , Neuenschmidten , and Streiberg, one of the six districts of the municipality of Brachttal in the East Hessian Main-Kinzig district . Spielberg is located in the southern Vogelsberg . The state road 3314 , which connects to the district of Streitberg , runs through the village . The name of the Spielberger Platte is derived from the place name .

history

The place is mentioned for the first time in 1258 as de Spegelberge . Other historical place names are de Spiegelberg (1313) and Spyelberg (1356). Spielberg Castle was mentioned in 1365, of which only the remains of a small round tower in the center of the village are preserved. From the Middle Ages to the 19th century, the place had forest rights (wood and hat rights) in the Büdinger Forest .

On February 1, 1971, Spielberg was incorporated into the municipality of Brachttal, which was newly formed the previous year, as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

In September 2016, Spielberg was seen as " Dolles Dorf  der Woche" on  Hessischer Rundfunk  .

Public facilities

schools

The opening of a new, multi-location school in Schlierbach on January 12, 1961, and soon (1966) its first expansion, was a signal for Spielberg to close the one -class local school . The school in Schlierbach gradually developed from a school with primary and secondary levels to a pure elementary school . Their catchment area soon included not only the three valley communities of Brachttals, but also Streitberg, Spielberg and the Wächtersbacher mountain communities of Wittgenborn, Waldensberg and Leisenwald.

The secondary school is the cooperative comprehensive school in the center of Wächtersbach , the Friedrich-August-Genth-Schule . Spielberg and the other Brachttaler districts are, as well as the Wächtersbacher districts, connected to this school center by bus lines.

Village community center and fairground

Spielberg has a village community center with the “Keglerschänke” restaurant. In addition to communal use, the facilities can also be booked for private events of all kinds, family celebrations, presentations, seminars and the like.

fire Department

The Spielberg volunteer fire department was founded in 1928. In 1978 a youth fire brigade was added. Today the operations department has 21 people, the youth fire brigade 11 people and the children's group has 4 members. The main areas of application and danger on site are:

  • Biogas plant
  • Riding stables.

Culture and sights

Streitberg and Leisenwald also belong to the evangelical parish of Spielberg . In 2016, the Spielberg parish merged with the Waldensberg parish to form the new Evangelical parish of Spielberg-Waldensberg. Since then, the parish has consisted of the four places Leisenwald, Spielberg, Streitberg and Waldensberg. The rectory is in Spielberg. There is one church in Spielberg and one in Waldensberg.

In the building of the former Isenburg office building and the former elementary school , the Brachttal e. V. established a museum . There is a permanent exhibition on Waechtersbach ceramics . The Vogelsberger Südbahn is shown as a model in the museum .
