The Toy Museum Trier was opened in May 1989 by the toy collector Rolf Scheurich and his wife Heidi Scheurich, a doll collector, initially in Nagelstrasse . At the time, it was the largest privately run museum of its kind in Germany. It remained in Scheurich's possession until it was sold in 2000; Since then it has been run by the association of the same name, which was founded specifically to maintain it. In October 2003 it moved to the " Steipe ", a historic building in Dietrichstrasse near Trier's main market .

The toy museum shows more than 5000 exhibits, spread over 500 m² and two floors. Among other things, old tin toys, model trains, dollhouses, shops, teddies, steam engines and rocking horses can be viewed. The oldest exhibit is a more than 130-year-old dancing bear from the French toy manufacturer Fernand Martin .

The main entrance is at Dietrichstrasse 51; Access via Jakobstrasse has been set up for people with reduced mobility .
