action

The US chief of intelligence in Europe, General Bruce, is supposed to prepare a prisoner exchange with his Russian colleague on the German-German border . On the way to the meeting point, he remembers three cases for which he worked as a supervisor.

The first case is about an Italian scientist who developed a special rocket fuel. The scientist does not want to make the fuel available to either the Russians or the Americans. The double agent Perego offers the Russians to kidnap the scientist by helicopter. At the same time, he informed the Italian authorities of the project. With the help of US agents, the kidnapping can be foiled and the scientist can be convinced of the honest intentions of the Americans.

In the second case, a possible Russian attack on two submarines that are holding a maneuver off Somalia is to be averted. The French underwater expert Laland can locate the Russians' submarine base.

The third case deals with the American agent Koulov, who escapes after 17 years in prison with secret information for General Bruce. He arrives at the meeting point a day earlier than planned. Due to the betrayal of the Berlin CIA boss Petchatkin, Koulov's hiding place is uncovered. Koulov is killed, but he can give the general a clue about the traitor.

When Bruce meets his Russian colleague and the exchange takes place, the two officers philosophize. Bruce concludes that war is a hell of a life.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films said: “Loosely strung together episodes about the luck and failure of West-Eastern secret services with the endeavor to portray 'collegial fairness' on all fronts. The real political situation is played down, however, and contemporary history becomes an anecdote. ”The Protestant film observer judged somewhat more positively :“ West-eastern spy film. Partly sober, partly sensationally presented. This time without superheroes and exaggerated sex. Conclusion: two entertaining hours. "
