Sportfreunde Stuttgart (full name: Sportfreunde Stuttgart 1874 eV ) is a sports club from the south of Stuttgart . The club was relatively successful in football before the Second World War , but is now only represented in lower-class divisions. In addition to football, the club has fistball , tennis , gymnastics , volleyball and a singing choir .
The association has a total of around 800 members, including over 350 young people.
history
The club has its origins in the Heslach gymnastics club , which was founded on April 18, 1874 in the »Zur Grünen Au« inn , and in the Karlsvorstadt soccer club , which was founded on June 20, 1896 and later renamed Sportfreunde Stuttgart . From the merger of the two clubs on August 2, 1919, the Stuttgart gymnastics and sports friends emerged in 1874 . The club was given its current name Sportfreunde Stuttgart 1874 on April 9, 1987.
Before the Second World War, Sportfreunde Stuttgart's most successful period was when the club first played in the Württemberg district class and later in the Württemberg Gauliga . Both leagues were among the highest divisions in German football at the time.
After they had to form a war sports community with the Stuttgarter Kickers in the last year of the war , the club made it to the football league south again in the 1947/48 season , but was immediately relegated as bottom of the table. Then they played in the amateur league Württemberg until they were relegated in 1954 , to which they could briefly return in the mid-1960s.
In the period that followed, the club began to fall deeply into sporting insignificance. Today the Sportfreunde Stuttgart play with their first team in the 10th class district league.

The Sportfreunde Stuttgart have had different venues in their history. Today the club plays its home games at the Waldau sports center in Stuttgart-Degerloch.
