Spree Revellers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Spree Revellers were a German vocal quartet in the 1930s. Their music was similar to the Comedian Harmonists and Rudi Schuricke and his trio emerged from them .

history

The Spree Revellers were founded in May 1934 with the members Gerhard Herrmann (tenor), Herbert Imlau (baritone), Bernhard Wehlan (bass) and Albert Schmitz (piano), as well as two members who are no longer known today. In a matinee in the winter garden in Berlin in November they will be announced as "five boys and one grand piano". Records are recorded for Telefunken and Kristall. The records are mostly only with piano accompaniment.

In February 1936, Rudi Schuricke joined the Spree Revellers and Werner Doege replaced Albert Schmitz. In March of the same year, the Spree Revellers signed a record deal with the Kristall company. In one year 12 records with 24 titles should be recorded. The fee was 125 Reichsmarks per title for the entire group. The records were then increasingly recorded with large orchestras and Rudi Schuricke was often in the foreground vocally.

In October / November 1936 Herbert Imlau left the group and was replaced by Friedrich Mietzner. In that year and also in 1938, the Spree Revellers had numerous appearances in concert halls on the radio and also on television. Rudi Schuricke left the Spree Revellers in March 1937. Georg Liedtke came for him as tenor. In October the Spree Revellers were renamed the Melodisten because of an allusion to the American Revelers . The cast was now:

  • Werner Doege (piano)
  • Friedrich Mietzner (baritone)
  • Georg Liedtke (tenor)
  • Bernhard Wehlan (bass)
  • Walter Elsner (tenor)
