Description and history

It is an inverted pyramid made of white concrete with an edge length of 25 meters, which reaches a maximum depth of 2.30 meters. For the viewer entering the sculpture, Square Depression should be presented as a negative stage. The effect of the work is achieved when you stand in the center, at the lowest point. There you are so deep down that you can no longer see the horizon. The abstract term "depression" - in English "lowering" - is explained in a physical way and can be experienced.

The work was already planned for the sculpture exhibition in 1977, but could not be realized until the exhibition in 2007, i.e. 30 years later.

criticism

In the run-up to the exhibition, Square Depression was criticized in particular by students and employees of the surrounding institutes for the fact that one of the last green spaces on campus was set in concrete.
