John Ssebaana Kizito

John Ssebaana Kizito (* 1934 in Luwero district ; † July 3, 2017 in Kampala ) was a Ugandan politician .

Life

He studied at Makerere University and Economics at the University of Oregon . From 1965 to 1980 he served as chairman of the National Insurance Corporation (social insurance company). From 1980 to 1985 he was MP for Kampala West. Under Museveni he was Minister for Regional Cooperation 1986 to 1987, then Minister for Cooperatives and Marketing until 1989 and finally Minister for Housing and Urban Planning from 1989 to 1991. From 1999 to 2005 he was mayor of the Ugandan capital Kampala .

Ssebaana was also the chairman of the Democratic Party (DP) and was the candidate of this party in the presidential election on February 23, 2006 , in which he could only win 1.58 percent of the vote.
