The Stäffelsberg tower is a 24 m high observation tower on the Stäffelsberg ( 480.8  m above sea  level ) in Wasgau , west of the village Dörrenbach in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Südliche Weinstrasse .

history

Today's Stäffelsberg tower is already the second tower on the Stäffelsberg. In 1887, on the initiative of the Dörrenbach teacher Joseph Veilriemen and the Bergzabern Beautification Association, the first 14 m high observation tower was built. The construction costs of 1,050 marks were covered by various associations, grants and donations. In 1940, in connection with the construction of the western wall, the upper part of the tower was demolished and a permanent observation point for the artillery was provided. On March 17, 1947, the French garrison ordered it to be blown up.

The Heimatbund Dörrenbach eV association, founded in 1950 , then suggested the reconstruction of the Stäffelsberg tower. After its construction was approved in 1963, it was finally inaugurated on October 11, 1964. The new Stäffelsbergturm is in concrete construction erected round tower m with a diameter of 4.8 m and a total height of 24th Three external steps lead to the entrance door on the east side of the tower.
