The Gigaset Arena ( Stölting Arena until July 2019 , until December 2015: Stadium “Am Hünting” ) is a football stadium and is located in the north of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Bocholt . It is the home of 1. FC Bocholt from the Niederrhein football league .

history

The venue, built in 1948, once offered 18,000 spectators. For safety reasons, there is currently only 4,999 seats available for football matches (2,300 seats and 2,699 standing). The main stand, which was built in 1980 to mark the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga , provided 2,230 covered seats and 3,120 covered standing places. In July 2012, due to static deficiencies, demolition of the grandstand began and was replaced by a new building the following year. The special thing about the stadium are the three other stands. These are not attached and designed as lawn walls. There are only a few breakwaters here. These green grandstands can accommodate a good 12,000 spectators.

The home fans of the top division are basically on the concrete steps of the main straight, while guest fans can look for their place anywhere in the stadium. There is no specially designated area. In games with a high number of opposing fans, for example against Fortuna Düsseldorf , this has led to dicey situations at one point or another. At the entrance to the stadium you will find the toilets, as well as a snack and beverage stand.

There was a record attendance in 1984 when the German record champions FC Bayern Munich had to travel to Hünting in the DFB Cup quarter-finals. The estimated attendance was 23,000 fans. In addition, the stadium was busy several times when the club was still playing in the 2nd Bundesliga .

In the run-up to the 1980 federal election , there was an election campaign event for the Bavarian Prime Minister and CSU candidate for Chancellor Franz Josef Strauss in front of around 18,000 people in the stadium on Hünting .

From December 1, 2015 to July 2019, the stadium was named Stölting Arena after the service company Stölting Service Group . This was announced by 1. FC Bocholt together with the name sponsor . The construction of a new grandstand for 700,000 euros with 500 seats is to be implemented by summer 2018 . Since July 2019, the stadium has been called Gigaset Arena after the name sponsor , and the contract runs until 2023.

Bocholt Open Air

Otherwise, only the Bocholt open-air concert, which has been held since 1998, fills the sports facility. In the past, internationally known artists such as Bryan Adams , Joe Cocker , Simple Minds , Status Quo , Fury in the Slaughterhouse , Carlos Santana and Deep Purple have performed there. German bands like BAP , Udo Lindenberg , Echt and Wir sind Helden were also part of the line-up.

The concert planned for July 2010 with the band Silbermond and Stefanie Heinzmann was moved from the Aasee-Festwiesen to the stadium due to the great demand; around 13,000 visitors came here. The Bocholter Open Air 2011 presented the main acts of the German pop bands Juli and Ich + Ich . The rock bands Die Ärzte and Die Toten Hosen performed in 2013, each with a record attendance of 23,000. On June 3, 2015 Herbert Grönemeyer gave a concert in the stadium in front of around 20,000 visitors. At the Open Air 2018, Revolverheld appeared as the main act and Max Giesinger and Johannes Oerding . In 2019 the Pur group filled the stadium.
