The Evangelical Lutheran St. Georg Christophorus Jodokus Church (formerly von Behr 's Gutskapelle ) in the Walsroder district of Stellichte ( Lüneburg Heath ) is a Renaissance church with a completely preserved, rich and uniform interior . Along with the Celle Palace Chapel, it is one of the most valuable and best-preserved Renaissance churches in Northern Germany.

Naming

Like the previous building, the church is dedicated to three saints: St. George , the dragon slayer, St. Christopher , one of the fourteen helpers and patron saint of travelers, and St. Jodokus , a monastery founder, hermit and pilgrim, who lived in the 7th century in the present day Lived Northern France.

history

The Stellichte estate has belonged to the von Behr family since 1479. Dietrich von Behr the Younger (1575–1632), Privy Councilor of Duke Christian the Elder of Lüneburg and Grand Voyage of Celle, had the manor chapel 1608–1610 as a burial place for his wife Elise Magdalene, born in 1607, who died early in 1607. von Bothmer to build on the existing chapel . The castle chapel in Celle , built at the end of the 15th century, served as a model . Carl Wolff wrote in 1902:

“In 1574, Dietrich Behr determined in his will that the church he built at Stellichte should be maintained by his sons and descendants“ in terms of building structure ”. Furthermore, to the 1000 thalers already given by his brother Heinrich for the glory of God, he adds another 1000 thalers, which are to be invested with interest. A learned man, who could be a pastor at Stellichte, is to be paid and entertained from the at least 100 thaler interest. The same should preach three times a week in the chapel, and what was due to a pastor, Thun. In 1610 Dietrich Behr had the small chapel demolished and built a larger one instead, as shown by two inscription panels hanging to the right and left of the organ. "

The chapel was elevated to a parish church in 1702 . In 1901 the church was extensively renovated. It has been part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover since 1975 .

organ

The organ from 1610.

The organ , originally built by the Dutchman Andreas de Mare for the Thedinga monastery in East Frisia , was expanded by his son Marten de Mare when the monastery was closed in 1609. While the pipework was possibly used for the organ of the Great Church in Leer , de Mare built the magnificent Renaissance case into the Stellichter small church in 1610. In 1910 the interior of the organ was modernized in the course of the renovation, but in 1985 Jürgen Ahrend reconstructed it in the Renaissance style. Since then, the organ has had 12 stops on two manuals and an attached pedal . The work has the following disposition :
