The St. Helena pound ( English Saint Helena pound ) is the currency of the British overseas territory of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha . The currency is only used in practical terms on St. Helena and Ascension , but not on Tristan da Cunha . There is no central bank for the overseas territory, but the currency is administered by a currency board founded in 1975 .

The pound sterling is an equal currency with a fixed exchange rate of 1 to 1.

The pound is divided into 100 pence. The area has its own coins minted at 1 penny, 2, 5, 10 and 50 pence as well as 1 and 2 pounds, and there are also 5, 10 and 20 pound notes .

An end to the independent St. Helena pound is expected by the chairman of the finance commission of the island area with the further opening of the island of St. Helena to tourists (as of March 2016).
