City Church of St. Andrew

The town church Sankt Andreas , whose origins go back to the 12th century, is the landmark of the town of Teltow in Brandenburg . In the course of time, the church was severely damaged by several city fires, so that today only the masonry is from the time it was built.

The church was originally built as a large field stone hall with a western broad tower , which was designed as a defensive tower , and a retracted rectangular choir , which was customary in the Mark Brandenburg in the 13th century in the Mark Brandenburg .

In a city fire on August 17th, 1801, St. Andrew's Church burned down completely.

Reconstruction could only begin in 1810, for which the government building inspector Balkow had drawn up the first plans. These were improved after objection by building inspector Schwarz, whereupon the Oberbaudeputation wrote an expert opinion on September 3, 1810, in which Karl Friedrich Schinkel was significantly involved. The church was designed in the style of neo-Gothic and classicism by Schinkel: He provided the designs for the choir wall and a new tower top. The tower tower was built in 1811/1812. On September 13, 1812, St. Andrew's Church was consecrated again.

Numerous structural defects made it necessary to rebuild the church again in 1910. A stone tablet on the eastern outer wall reminds of this. As part of this renovation, the interior design was completely renewed, so Schinkel's influence is no longer noticeable inside. A wooden, painted barrel vault was drawn into the nave, the crucifix and the wood carvings on the pulpit, the gallery and the benches were delivered from Bressanone .

In the years 2007 to 2011 the church was renovated, the renovation of the interior was based on the design of the church in 1910. As part of the renovation, three new bells were purchased in the bell tower. The two old bells can be found on the outside area behind the church. The old tower clock continues its service behind a shop window of the archive / the exhibition washing technology of the Heimatverein Stadt Teltow 1990 eV
