St. Pius is a Roman Catholic church in the parish of Bernhard-Lichtenberg in the Bavarian town of Hof . It is located in the southern district of Münster. The design, with a roof construction based on God's tent among the people ( Rev 21,3  EU ), takes account of the Second Vatican Council .

history

The mother parish of the Catholics in Hof was initially the Marienkirche . With the influx of refugees and displaced persons in the early 1950s, the Catholic community in Hof also expanded and made it necessary to build a separate church for the Münster and Krötenbruck area . In the period from 1961 to 1977 the building of the church was preceded by a wooden emergency church at the Zobelsreuther Wäldchen. A church building association was founded in 1972 to build a church. Survey conducted on the structure and financing of the church. In 1977 the Archbishop of Bamberg, Elmar Maria Kredel , consecrated the altar. The previous church of the St. Pius Church was dismantled and brought to Bischberg , where it was rebuilt.

In 2000, a photovoltaic system was installed on the roof of the church to generate energy . A fundamental renovation of the Pius Church was completed on Palm Sunday 2017. The Church of St. Pius belonged to the pastoral care area of St. Konrad . On July 1, 2017, the Catholic churches in Hof merged to form a city-wide parish.

Furnishing

The Köditz sculptor Margarete Wiggen made ambo , tabernacle , altar candlesticks, lecture cross , Easter candlestick, floor candlestick, candle table, door handles, altar cross, lectern, holy water basin and an entrance relief made of bronze for the furnishings of the church . The plaque at the entrance of the church has the patronage of Pope Pius X back. The stained glass windows with motifs of the Way of the Cross are the work of the Lichtenfels painter Hubert Weber . With a restored Gothic figure of Jesus and a Madonna from the end of the 19th century, older objects also found their way into the church.

The two-manual organ with 18 registers , built by the Kloss company in 1982, is located on the west gallery. It was renovated in 2017 by Orgelbau Hörl from Helmbrechts , which is also responsible for maintenance and care.
