St. Vigil
San Vigilio ( Ladin Al Plan or Al Plan de Mareo , Italian San Vigilio di Marebbe ; for the holy Vigilius of Trent ) is a fraction of the municipality of Marebbe in South Tyrol ( Italy ), about 10 km south of Brunico . The place is located in the Enneberger Valley (also Vigil Valley ), a few kilometers after it branches off from the Gadertal .
With its altitude of 1201 m above a basin in the Enneberger Valley, St. Vigil is a popular holiday destination in both summer and winter due to its sunny location. Behind the village, the terrain rises to the Kronplatz , the 2275 m high local mountain of the region and famous ski mountain. The ski slopes are 90 km long, but numerous ski tours are also possible. The Rautal is ideal for cross-country skiing and the nearby nature reserve for snowshoeing :
The Fanes-Sennes-Braies nature park begins directly behind San Vigilio, with a total of 300 km of hiking trails , over 200 km of mountain biking routes and a distant view of the South Tyrolean Dolomites . The Kreuzspitze can also be hiked from St. Vigil.
At the beginning of the 15th century the area was owned by the Counts of Tyrol ; In St. Vigil, the Sonnenburg monastery established a jurisdiction for Enneberg and the entire Gadertal. Katharina Lanz , the “girl from Spinges”, who was born in St. Vigil and fought off the French soldiers from the cemetery wall of Spinges (part of today's municipality of Mühlbach ) , reported from the Tyrolean freedom struggles ( coalition wars ) against the French .
