Archbishop Stanisław Nowak

Stanisław Nowak (born July 11, 1935 in Jeziorzany , Poland ) is retired Archbishop of Częstochowa ( Czestochowa ).

Life

After entering the Archbishop's Seminary in Cracow and studying Catholic theology at the Jagiellonian University , Stanisław Nowak received the sacrament of ordination on June 22, 1958 . Then he was first chaplain in Chocznia and later in Ludźmierz and Rogoźnik . Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of Chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ) on March 2, 1979 .

On October 26, 1984, John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Częstochowa. He received his episcopal ordination from Józef Cardinal Glemp on November 25th of the same year; the solemn assumption of office in the cathedral of Częstochowa took place shortly afterwards on December 8th. After the restructuring of the Catholic Church in Poland through the Apostolic Constitution Totus tuus Poloniae populus of March 25, 1992 issued by John Paul II and the associated elevation of the diocese of Częstochowa to the archdiocese , Stanisław Nowak became the first archbishop of Częstochowa and thus the first metropolitan of the newly created church province of the same name .

On December 29, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
