The Star Wars Celebration is the world's largest gathering of fans of the science fiction film saga Star Wars .

The meeting goes back to similar events that have been taking place in the USA for a long time . The first official meeting took place there in 1987. For the second edition in spring 1999, referred to as “Celebration I”, shortly before the film release of Episode I , over 10,000 visitors came in pouring rain. Celebration II 2002 in Indianapolis - two weeks before Episode II theatrical release - already 25,000 visitors. Celebration IV took place on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the 2007 film series in Los Angeles , while Celebration VI took place in Orlando in 2010 .

For the 30th anniversary of the film saga in 2007, the first Celebration Europe (CE) was launched; it took place from July 13th to 15th, 2007 in the Exhibition Center London , attended by around 30,000 fans.

The second CE was held from July 26th to 28th, 2013 at Messe Essen ; again around 30,000 visitors came. As at all previous conventions, several actors from the film series were guests. Original backdrops and replicas of props were shown, all kinds of fan articles were offered for sale, various films were shown and more.

The Star Wars Celebration Europe took place again from July 15-17, 2016 in the London Exhibition Center.

The organizer of the CE is Reed Exhibitions (a company of the Reed Elsevier media group ) in cooperation with Lucasfilm (Disney group).
