Stasys Šaparnis (born October 2, 1939 in Panevėžys , Lithuanian SSR ) is a former Soviet pentathlete .
Career
In his only participation in the Olympics , at the 1968 Games in Mexico City , he finished ninth in the individual competition. In the team standings, to which Pawel Lednjow and Borys Onyshchenko also contributed in addition to Šaparnis , he managed to win the silver medal.
With the Soviet team he became world champion in 1969 . As early as 1966 he had become vice world champion with the team, which he succeeded again in 1970 . In the individual he was second behind András Balczó in 1967 .
At the national level he was champion of the Lithuanian SSR between 1961 and 1963, and 1971 and 1972. After his career as an active athlete, he first worked as a pentathlon coach before taking on judges and officials. From 1988 to 1992 he was President of the Lithuanian Modern Pentathlon Association, and from 1992 to 1996 he was Vice President of the Lithuanian Olympic Committee .
