The Staufen is 594  m above sea level. NHN high mountain of volcanic origin in Hegau in the south of Baden-Württemberg . It rises on the northeastern outskirts of Hilzingen .

history

Staufen Castle, first mentioned in documents in 1272, is located on the mountain .

The mountain cone including the castle complex was in the fiefdom of the Lords of Homburg , partly fiefdoms of the Counts of Hohenberg, from around 1269 to the 15th century , until it was taken over by the Dukes of Austria in 1381.
