Stefan Wild

Stefan Wild (born March 2, 1937 in Leipzig ) is a German orientalist .

Life

After studying at the Universities of Munich , Yale University , Erlangen and Tübingen , he received his doctorate in 1961 and completed his habilitation in 1968 at the University of Munich in the field of Semitic Studies . From 1968 to 1973 he was director of the Orient Institute of the German Oriental Society in Beirut / Lebanon . From 1974 to 1977 he taught as Professor of Semitic Languages ​​and Islamic Studies at the University of Amsterdam and from 1977 as Professor of Semitic Philology and Islamic Studies at the University of Bonn , where he became professor in 2002was retired .

He is co-editor of the magazine Die Welt des Islams , an international magazine for the history of Islam in modern times.

His main areas of work are classical Arabic literature and lexicography as well as modern Arabic literature and intellectual history.

In 2005 he was honored by the “Helga and Edzard Reuter Foundation” for his life-long scientific work on international understanding.
