Stefanie Köhle (born June 6, 1986 in Zams ) is a former Austrian ski racer . Her strongest discipline was the giant slalom . She won the giant slalom classification in the European Cup in the 2007/08 season and made it onto the podium once in the Alpine Skiing World Cup in 2012/13 .

biography

Köhle attended the main ski school in Neustift and the ski school in Stams , which she graduated from in 2005 with the Matura . In 2003, Köhle was accepted into the junior squad of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) after suffering a cruciate ligament tear in her left knee the previous season . In winter 2003/2004 she celebrated her first victory in an FIS race , but her first participation in a Junior World Championship was unsuccessful. She fared better two years later when she finished ninth in the Super-G at the 2006 Junior World Championship . After being accepted into the ÖSV-B squad, Köhle started regularly in the European Cup from the 2005/2006 season . After numerous top 10 placements and a podium finish, she celebrated her first European Cup victory on February 16, 2007 in the Super-G at Sella Nevea . She finished the 2006/2007 season in fifth place in the overall classification and third in the Super-G classification. After the winter, she was promoted to the A-team of the ÖSV.

In the 2007/2008 season , Köhle celebrated two European Cup victories in the giant slaloms in Alleghe and Courchevel , which ultimately secured her overall victory in the discipline classification. In the same winter , she took part in her first six World Cup races. On her debut on October 27, 2007, she immediately won World Cup points in the giant slalom on the Rettenbachferner in Sölden with 24th place, but was unable to qualify for the second round in the other races. After her good European Cup results, Köhle has mainly competed in the World Cup since the 2008/2009 season . This winter she achieved several top 20 placings before she achieved her first top 10 result at the end of the season with ninth place in the giant slalom in Åre . The next winter started with an eleventh place in Sölden as well as the last one ended, but as the season went on she was affected by a back injury, whereupon she was no longer among the fastest 15 in any race.

After Köhle had competed in world cup races in all five disciplines in the past two seasons, she has been concentrating again largely on the giant slalom since the 2010/2011 season . She achieved her best World Cup result that winter with twelfth place on December 28, 2010 in Semmering , but in February 2011 she had to end the season prematurely after a serious knee injury. During a training fall in Dienten earlier this month, she suffered tears in the anterior cruciate ligament and the lateral meniscus in her left knee. In the 2011/2012 World Cup winter , Köhle achieved a total of four top 10 results in giant slalom, with her best result being a sixth place in Lienz on December 28, 2011. She finished eleventh in the Giant Slalom World Cup and at the end of the season became Austrian State Champion in Giant Slalom and Super-G. In spring 2012, after five years in the senior squad, she was promoted to the Austrian national team.

On October 27, 2012, Köhle achieved third place in the giant slalom in Sölden, the first podium in a World Cup race. However, the 2013-14 season was disappointing for them. On April 14, 2014, she announced the end of her career.
