Steffen Fetzner
Steffen Fetzner (born August 17, 1968 in Karlsruhe ) is a German table tennis player. In 1989 he became world champion in doubles at the table tennis world championship in Dortmund together with Jörg Roßkopf . Between 1988 and 1996 he won six German championships in men's doubles with Jörg Roßkopf.
Career
"Speedy" Fetzner grew up in Spöck , where he played his first balls in the table tennis department of the gymnastics club.
The 1.69 m tall Fetzner achieved most successes in doubles with a Roßkopf. In 1986 the two won both the German youth championships and the European youth championships in doubles. They won the silver medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona . They became German champions six times. In the individual, Fetzner reached the final five times, but he lost each time.
Between 1985 and 2000, Fetzner played 206 international matches. He then ended his international career and worked as a player-coach at TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau until 2004 .
Since July 2005, Fetzner has been Vice President of the German Table Tennis Association with a special assignment. His field of activity included the Bundesliga and public relations. In April 2007 he became the head coach of a sports academy in Doha ( Qatar ).
Private
Fetzner has been married to Belinda Leimberg since July 1994 and has two daughters. His younger brother Dirk never reached Steffen Fetzner's skill level, but won the German Youth Team Championship in 1990/91 with TTG 1947 Walldorf.
