Sten Ingelf

Sten Ingelf (* 1943 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish composer , arranger , university lecturer and jazz trumpeter .

Live and act

Ingelf, who grew up in Linköping , already worked as an arranger and trumpeter in a jazz band at the age of thirteen. From the age of sixteen he attended the music school in Linköping. From 1963 he studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm with Allan Johansson and Göran Åkestedt . In addition to his studies, he played in various jazz bands, the Swedish radio symphony orchestra and the Stockholm Opera Orchestra.

From 1967 to 1970 he completed a music theory training at the Royal Academy of Music and studied with Valdemar Söderholm , Henry Lindroth , Lars Edlund , Bo Wallner , Arne Mellnäs and Hans Eklund . He took composition lessons from Ingvar Lidholm and attended guest lectures by Karlheinz Stockhausen , Mauricio Kagel , Per Nørgård , Witold Lutosławski and György Ligeti .

From 1970 Ingelf taught composition at the Malmö University of Music (since 2001 as a professor) and wrote several textbooks for classical, jazz and rock musicians, especially on harmony. As a trumpeter and flugelhorn player, he was a member of the Tolvan Big Band ; there he composed and arranged pieces for radio and recordings a. a. with Dave Liebman and Michael Brecker . So he arranged z. B. Liebman's The Picture of Dorian Gray / Guided Dream and composed the piece Pandora's Box (1989) for a television recording by Brecker with the Tolvan Big Band .
