Steph Green , born as Stephanie Ann Green (born August 12, 1979 in San Francisco ) is an American-Irish film director and screenwriter . Her short film Der Neue was nominated for an Oscar in 2009.

Live and act

Steph Green was born in the United States, but is of Irish descent and moved to Ireland around 2001 after studying at Northwestern University . There she completed a film degree at University College Dublin , which she completed with a master's degree. During her studies, she created her first short film Copywrite using footage from Illinois , which screened at several festivals and earned her first attention in the film industry.

After graduating, she recorded three spots for the Irish charity Simon Community, which is committed to helping the homeless. These were shown at the 2004 Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival and the Young Guns Advertising Awards. In the same year she shot the short film Push Hands in Dublin . She then went to Los Angeles , where she assisted director Spike Jonze in the production of commercials for two years . Then she began to create her own advertising clips. She worked in Australia, Ireland and the USA. In 2006 her IKEA commercial Cover Up was nominated for the Cannes International Advertising Award.

After reading Roddy Doyle's story, New Boy , Green contacted him to film the story . She wrote the script with Doyle's advice and directed the short film based on it. Her film Der Neue (original title New Boy ) is about an African boy who is new to an Irish school class and has been shown at over 20 international festivals. In 2009 she was nominated for an Oscar in the Short Film (Live Action) category together with the producer of the film Tamara Anghie .

In 2013, Green's first full-length feature film was released in cinemas, Entirely and Right in the Middle . The film drama premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival . It is about a family struggling with the aftermath of a stroke that their father suffered.

In 2014 Green returned to the States from Ireland and began a career as a TV director. She completed programs at Fox 20 and CBS and, with the support of Dan Attias, got the opportunity to direct an episode of the FX series The Americans (2016). Further assignments as a television director followed, including the series You're the Worst (2017), The Man in the High Castle (2018) and Watchmen - Die Wächter (2019). She also directed two episodes of The L Word: Generation Q (2019), including the leading premiere episode .
