Cover

As with previous In Extremo albums, Dirk Rudolph is also responsible for the cover design for Sterneneisen . The cover shows an ancient double-decker that is packed to the ceiling. The double decker is packed as versatile as the band is. You can see a wooden barrel, anchor, empty bird cage, large wine bottle, outboard motor, an oar, flag with a seven-pointed star. "It's our" Pippi Longstocking "plane," says Michael Robert Rhein in an interview.

background

The content of the Sterneneisen album is based on the stars and the legendary star iron. It is the metal of a burned-up meteorite that is said to have magical powers. According to a legend, the Excalibur sword was forged from star iron. However, other topics are touched upon on Sterneneisen . The album opens with the song Zigeunerskat . This is a hymn of praise for freedom and playing cards. In Gold sings In Extremo two friends who are in search of gold. But the greed of one leads to the death of the other.

Viva la Vida is a typical drinking song. The song is about a night of partying in the restaurant and the morning after.

Stalker focuses on harassing other people by stalking them. Get the stars , sung with the Count of Unheilig , is based on a true story of a Scandinavian fisherman who wanted to climb a mountain, but couldn't. As on previous albums, there is a spell on this one, in this case Spell VII . It is an ancient Estonian spell against envy and envy. The song Sterneneisen is a self-portrayal of the band in relation to the mystical star iron. It reflects the history and the way of life of the band. The song Eye for Eye is about the thoughts and hypotheses of a murderer awaiting the death penalty.

In sight to the moon is about the life and aspirations of a werewolf who meets a girl. The next song, Invisible , again addresses the spurned love of a street musician who is ignored. Mille Petrozza from Kreator lends his voice to the song. I miss you is kept fairly open in terms of topic. It can be a love song, but a loved one can also have died whose death is being mourned.

reception

Ulf Kubanke from Laut.de described the album as a real "grater rock with a metallic sheen". He awarded four out of five stars.

Tanja Kraus from Cdstarts.de drew the following conclusion: “The strong driving tracks like Zigeunerskat , Gold or the gloomy Stalker impress with their usual hard In Extremo-Metal, which is still damn good not only live. But also the reminiscence of the Middle Ages magic spell no. VII with very deep vocals and Estonian text convinces with musical quality. The very anthemic and melody-loving Sieh das Licht and “Schau zum Mond II” also have so much power to portray medieval rock in a further developed version of In Extremo that you then simply know that they are rightly one of the most successful bands new CD will also hit the charts pretty high again. ”It awarded eight out of ten stars.

Andreas Ljubisic from Generation-one.de described the album as follows: “If you ca n't blame In Extremo for one thing , it's artistic stagnation. The announcement that they would no longer tread the beaten track and venture into new areas was unmistakable. The fact that these new areas mostly consist of less revolutionary punk borrowings and over-simplistic lyrics will certainly not only disappoint the fans of the older albums, but will also scare off one or the other potential new listener with their consistent mediocrity. It's a shame, a milestone looks different. ”He awarded three out of six points.
