Steven Meisel

Steven Meisel (* 1954 in New York City ) is an American photographer and illustrator , he is considered one of the leading living fashion photographers and is currently the main photographer for the Italian edition of Vogue , for which he has been photographing all covers since 1988. His occasionally provocative photo series, such as SEX or Make love - not war , repeatedly sparked discussions.

Life

Steven Meisel attended the Parsons School of Design , later worked there as a part-time lecturer, but first started at the Halston label and then worked for the fashion newspaper "Women's Wear Daily". During this time he was mainly employed as an illustrator, it was not until 1980 that he increasingly shifted his activity to photography.

During his career he promoted many later top models, including Linda Evangelista , Karen Elson , Lara Stone , Raquel Zimmermann , Christy Turlington , Naomi Campbell , Kristen McMenamy and Lily Cole . He also photographed Lisa Marie Presley and Madonna ( SEX ) and made photos for record covers.

His campaigns caused much discussion and were banned in some countries because of alleged pornography .
