Steven Pruitt (* 17th April 1984 in San Antonio , Texas , user Ser Amantio di Nicolao ) is an American Wikipedia - author . He was named the Internet's 25 Most Influential People in 2017 by Time Magazine for having had over two million edits and more than 30,000 articles written. At the beginning of 2019, the American television station CBS News dedicated a contribution to him. He has helped to reduce systematic bias in Wikipedia and, with the help of the Women in Red project , promote the inclusion of women.

Life

Pruitt graduated from St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School in Alexandria, Virginia in 2002 . He then attended the College of William & Mary and graduated in 2006 with a degree in art history .

One of Pruitt's non-Wikipedia-related interests is the Capitol Hill Choir, in which he sings. He is also an avid opera fan, which inspired his Wikipedia username Ser Amantio di Nicolao - named after a minor character of a notary in Puccini's opera Gianni Schicchi from 1918.

He earns his living as an archivist for the US border authorities .

Wikipedia work

Pruitt created his user account in 2006 while he was a student. He wrote his first article in the English language Wikipedia about his ancestor and US politician Peter Francisco, an important figure of the American Revolutionary War who was born in Portugal , known as the "Giant of Virginia", who, according to his own statements, was Pruitt's "great-great-great Great-great-great-grandfather "is.

By February 2019, Pruitt had made over 3 million changes to Wikipedia, more than any other author on English-language Wikipedia . On November 1, 2015, he surpassed the author Justin Knapp for most edits. According to his own statements, Pruitt made his first edit in Wikipedia in June 2004. His Wikipedia edits included writing articles on more than 600 women to help counter the gender gap on the site.
