history

Between January 2, 1965 and August 31, 1974, Radio Veronica broadcast the Veronica Top 40 . When the radio station was closed, Lex Harding (one of the chart presenters on Radio Veronica) and Rob Out founded the Stichting Nederlandse Top 40 in order to be able to continue the charts. Harding and Out took over all costs privately. The record industry, however, worked with NOS and AVRO for a new national hit parade . Nevertheless, the Nederlandse Top 40 held up.

In 1999 the Mega Charts Society was founded, which was a collaboration between the Stichting Mega Top 100 and the Stichting Nederlandse Top 40 and existed until 2003.

To mark the fortieth anniversary of the Top 40, the municipality of Almere had a place named Top 40 Plein on January 2, 2005 .

On November 1, 2006, Erik de Zwart, who himself presented the charts on Radio 538 for years , was appointed the new chairman of the foundation, while Harding remained as an ordinary board member of the foundation.
