Russki Mir Foundation

The Russki Mir Foundation (also Russkij Mir Foundation , Russian Русский мир , in German Russian World ) is a Russian organization whose aim is to popularize the Russian language abroad.

Foundation and organization

The foundation was established by a decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on June 21, 2007. The foundation is a joint project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and the Russian Ministry of Education and Science . Russki Mir is financed by means of the state budget and donations. The head is the Russian political scientist Vyacheslav Nikonov . In the Board of Trustees of Russki Mir-known Russian personalities sitting in science and culture, such as the Metropolitan Ilarion Alfeyev or the head of the Hermitage Mikhail Piotrovsky .

The foundation operates a network of Russian centers in numerous European and Asian cities. In these there is access to Russian literature, magazines, learning programs as well as audio and video material. Various events such as themed weeks, conferences, seminars or exhibitions are also held in the centers.

In Germany there are two Russian centers in Nuremberg and Dresden . In addition, the association supports the RussoMobil in cooperation with the Federal Association of German West-East Societies . It is a car equipped with Russian games, books and magazines, which, on request, introduces Russian language and culture to schools with accompanying Russian lecturers.

In Austria there is a Russian center each at the University of Salzburg (since 2015) and at the University of Innsbruck (since 2011).
