The pro missio foundation is an independent church foundation . It was established in 2000 to financially support the work of missio Internationales Katholisches Missionswerk eV . The foundation, based in Aachen, is a community foundation based on endowments. The foundation is supported by over 1,000 donors.

The foundation invests the capital entrusted to it on a long-term basis according to ethical and economic aspects. The foundation's capital and the trust assets it manages amount to over 50 million euros.

The purpose of the foundation is realized by funding missio's projects. The income from the foundation capital is used to support the pastoral and social work of the Catholic Church in Africa , Asia and Oceania in accordance with missio's statutory purposes .

A range of funding opportunities are offered to private individuals, companies and project sponsors under the umbrella of the foundation. In the long term, for example, through a trust foundation or an endowment fund, church-sponsored projects can be effectively and sustainably supported.

The foundation bodies are the board of trustees and the board of directors . Both organs of the foundation work on a voluntary basis.

Funding priorities

Under the motto “Faith. With a view to the future ”, the foundation primarily promotes through specific thematic funds

  • the education and training of church workers (priests, sisters, catechists);
  • working with children and young people at risk (e.g. AIDS orphans, refugees, child laborers);
  • the old-age security of women and men in the church service;
  • the support of church work in emergency situations (e.g. emergency pastoral care, reconstruction after disasters, accompaniment of people traumatized by war and violence);
  • the development of global church networks to promote a worldwide church learning community;
  • awarding scholarships to talented young people to qualify local leaders for service in church and society.

Goals and Values

The foundation helps to ensure that the churches in the southern countries will continue to receive the tools they need to be there for people in need. missio Aachen currently enables around 800 individual measures in Africa, Asia and Oceania. Principles and ethical principles are:

  • the primary option for the poor and the weak, regardless of religion or church affiliation;
  • conscientious handling of donations and foundation funds;
  • greatest care in the selection and supervision of the projects;
  • the best possible advice and support for donors and benefactors.

Security and transparency

The correct use of the funds is checked by the board of trustees of the foundation pro missio and independent auditors. In order to secure the trust of its sponsors and to continuously improve its work, pro missio, as a funding foundation of missio eV, undergoes the same coordinated external tests as missio eV

In the missio investment committee, experts have drawn up investment guidelines for missio based on ethical and economic aspects. pro missio is obliged to adhere to these guidelines.
