Stig Olin , born as Stig Högberg (born September 10, 1920 in Stockholm , † June 28, 2008 ibid) was a Swedish actor , director , screenwriter , composer and singer . He became known, among other things, as a regular actor in the early films of Ingmar Bergman .

Life

Stig Olin was born out of wedlock and grew up in a children's home for the first few years of his life. He made his debut as a film actor in 1940 in Kronans käcka gossar . He first met Ingmar Bergman in the early 1940s and later worked like him in the manuscript department of the Svensk Filmindustri production company . Their first joint film work was Die Hörige (1944), in which Olin took on a major supporting role and Bergman acted as a screenwriter and assistant director. The collaboration lasted until the early 1950s. In 1953 Olin directed I dur och skur (1953) for the first time. In the following years he switched to directing and composed some of the music for his films. At the end of the 1950s, Svensk Filmindustri separated from Olin, who moved to Sveriges Radio , where he held leading positions from 1967 to 1980. Parallel to his film and radio work, he has repeatedly staged at the theater, for example Stephen Sondheim's 1978 musical A Little Night Music , which in turn is based on Bergman's film The Smile of a Summer Night (1955). In 2008 Olin died in a nursing home near Stockholm.

Olin was married twice, to actress Britta Holmberg and to Helena Kallenbäck. His children Mats and Lena Olin came from his marriage to Holmberg . The latter also played for Bergman and later in international productions.
