Stockinger is a 14-part crime series filmed in Austria in 1996 as an offshoot of Commissioner Rex .

Then his wife Karin has taken over there the doctor's office of her late father, can the Viennese detective , district inspector Ernst Stockinger, from the Vienna Police Department to Provincial Gendarmerie Command Salzburg move. Right at the beginning he has to solve the murder of the “ Jedermann ” -caller at the Salzburg Festival .

The humorous crime series couldn't keep up with the success of 'Inspector Rex'. The audience ratings for the series produced by ORF and Sat.1 did not meet expectations. The fact that no other season was shot was mainly due to Karl Markovics . In an interview he said that ORF and Sat.1 would have loved to produce another season; however, he refused. Markovics justified his decision with the fact that he had been shooting continuously for three years at this point (two seasons of Kommissar Rex and one season of Stockinger) and that it was very exhausting.

From September 2006 the complete series was offered as a DVD box in stores.
