Stuart Whitman

Stuart Maxwell Whitman (born February 1, 1928 in San Francisco - † March 16, 2020 in Montecito , California ) was an American actor .

life and career

He attended Hollywood High School in Hollywood together with the future film actress Mitzi Gaynor and the future postmaster General Anthony M. Frank . After graduating from high school, Stuart Whitman went to the United States Army Corps of Engineers for three years . He then studied at the Los Angeles Academy of Dramatic Art . Whitman then toured across the United States with the play Here Comes Mr. Jordan . At the same time he was seen in first films and television series.

In 1960, Stuart Whitman got his first leading role in the gangster film Underworld with May Britt and Peter Falk . In 1961 he played alongside Maria Schell and Rod Steiger in Brandmarked . For his leading role in this film, Whitman was nominated for an Oscar in 1962 . The 1960s were his most successful years as a film actor, he took on major roles in films such as The Comancheros (1961) with John Wayne , The Longest Day (1962), Guide to Murder (1964) and The Daredevil Men in Their Flying Chests (1965 ). Between 1967 and 1968 Whitman played the title role in the television series The Marshall of Cimarron . Then Stuart Whitman played in numerous television productions and individual films, but from the 1970s were often of no great importance. He most recently appeared in the action film The President's Man alongside Chuck Norris in 2000 . His work encompassed more than 180 film and television productions.

In 1998 Whitman was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame . The actor had five children and was married three times, most recently to Julia Vadimovna Paradiz since 2006. Whitman, who had made his fortune from real estate business alongside acting, retired on his ranch near Santa Barbara .
