Sturmbann was an organizational division of the "combat units" ( SA , SS , NSKK ) of the NSDAP . He could also be found in the organization of the NSFK . The overriding formation was the standard .

Sturmbann is a compound of the noun storm and the root word Bann of the noun banner .

structure

The name, which originally came from the SA as a tradition, was used in the other Nazi organizations, including the armed SS organizations ( SS disposal troops and SS skulls ) since 1930 . When the Waffen-SS emerged from them in 1942 , the “military counterpart” became the predominant standard term.

A storm spell usually comprised three to four storms and could be between 250 and 600 men strong. In the army it was roughly equivalent to the battalion .
