The Stuttgarter Hymnus-Chorknaben are a boys' choir founded by Paul Lechler in 1900 . The first choirmaster was Gotthold Kimmerle . The famous boys' choirs from Leipzig ( Thomanerchor ) and Dresden ( Kreuzchor ) served as models for the foundation .

Stuttgart Hymn Choirboys (1969)

After the Second World War, under Gerhard Wilhelm, the choir gained recognition through concert tours at home and abroad and has been an integral part of Stuttgart's musical life ever since. In 1987, after 41 years, Gerhard Wilhelm resigned as director of the choir for reasons of age. He was followed by Eckard Weyand (management 1987–1992), then Hanns-Friedrich Kunz (management 1992–2010). Rainer Johannes Homburg has been leading the choir since April 2010 .

In 2017 the choir had 207 members between the ages of 6 and 25, including 82 boys and 35 men in the concert choir. Since 1970 the choir has been rehearsing in its own choir hall, which was designed by Günter Behnisch . The hymn choir has no boarding school. The boys live with their parents and attend different schools.

The choir's repertoire includes sacred vocal music from the early baroque to the present day. The choir performs around 50 concerts and church services each year.

Each choir boy receives individual lessons from trained voice instructors. This individual support is continued throughout the boys' choir and also in the male choir.

The association Förderkreis der Stuttgarter Hymnus-Chorknaben eV supports the choir financially.
