Abdurrahman ibn Abdulaziz as-Sudais ( Arabic عبد الرحمن السديس, DMG ʿAbdu r-Raḥmān as-Sudais ; * 1961 in Riyadh ) is the imam (prayer leader / preacher) and Koran reciter of the Holy Mosque in Mecca . He belongs to the Hanbali school of Islam .

Life

At the age of 12 he became Haafiz . He studied Islamic law ( Sharia , Fiqh ) in Riyadh and received his bachelor's degree in 1983 . He expanded his degree by studying at the Imam Muhammad ibn Saud University in Riyadh, where he obtained his master’s degree in 1987 . He then studied at Umm-al-Qura University in Mecca until 1995, where he did his doctorate in Islamic studies. Since 1996 he has been the imam of the Holy Mosque in Mecca.

In 2005, Al-Sudais was "in recognition of his dedication Koran by the organizing committee of Islam and" International Holy Koran Award from Dubai ( English Dubai International Holy Quran Award DIHQA) for the Islamic Personality of the Year chosen. On the occasion of the acceptance of the award in Dubai , he said: "The message of Islam and Muslims is humility, fairness, security, stability, sympathy, harmony and friendliness."

Sudais has been repeatedly criticized for making derogatory or aggressive remarks about people of different faiths, including Christians, Jews, Hindus and followers of the Shiite faith in Islam.
