Sun d'Or International Airlines ( Hebrew סאן דור) is an Israeli charter airline based in Tel Aviv and a wholly owned subsidiary of El Al .

history

Boeing 757-200 of the Sun d'Or

Sun d'Or International Airlines was founded on October 1, 1977 under the name El Al Charter Services as a subsidiary of El Al , which was then still state-owned. In 1981 the airline was then renamed Sun d'Or, only the CEO Uriel Yashiv then added the name International .

In 2005 El Al and thus also Sun d'Or were privatized.

In March 2011, the Israeli Aviation Authority revoked Sun d'Or's Air Operator Certificate on April 1, 2011 on the grounds that the company disregarded international standards with regard to its structure and operations. This has already been criticized, but has not been changed. At the same time, the company put its four Boeing 757-200s out of service. The flights were then continued in code-sharing with El Al. Since 2013, Sun d'Or has been operating charter flights again under its own name with its leased Boeing 737-800 .

After El Al wanted to take over Israir in May 2015 , the merger of Israir and Sun d'Or was announced in July 2017 . Israir's previous owner, IDB Tourism, is said to receive $ 24 million and 25 percent of the d'Or. The approval of the authorities and the consent of the Israir pilots is still pending.

From Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv-Jaffa , Sun d'Or offers its own charter services as well as codeshare flights with El Al mainly to Europe . In German-speaking countries , currently (as of October 2019) only Salzburg is served . Previously, connections to Frankfurt am Main , Stuttgart , Graz , Munich , Vienna and Zurich were also served.
