Suzaku (Tennō)

Suzaku ( Japanese 朱雀 天皇 , Suzaku-tennō ; * September 7, 923 ( traditional : Enchō 1/7/24); † September 6, 952 (traditional: Tenryaku 6/8/15)) was the 61st Tennō of Japan (930-946). He was the third son of Daigo -Tennō with the Empress Yasuko, a biological sister of Fujiwara no Tokihira .

Fujiwara no Tadahira was appointed regent ( sesshō ) for the 7-year-old Crown Prince Hiroakira in 930 by the abdicating Daigo-Tennō, who was already dying .

There were two major rebellions during his reign. These were the uprising of the Taira no Masakado in Kantō and the piracy of Fujiwara no Sumitomo († July 941).

Suzaku abdicated in April 946 in favor of his younger brother Murakami .
