Suzanne Juyol

Suzanne Juyol (born January 1, 1920 in Paris ; † July 20, 1994 there ) was a French opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Juyol studied singing at the Conservatoire de Paris . In 1942 she made her debut at the Paris Opera as Margared in Édouard Lalo's opera Le roi d'Ys with Solange Renaux , Mario Altery and José Beckmans under the direction of the conductor François Ruhlmann . Her breakthrough came in 1943, when she represented Germaine Lubin in the title role of Gabriel Faurés Pénélope at the Paris Opera and first appeared as Carmen in Bizet's opera at the Monte Carlo Opera.

In 1946 Juyol made her debut as Charlotte in Jules Massenet's Werther . Here she also appeared as Carmen, as Tosca in Puccini 's opera and Santuzza in Cavalleria rusticana by Pietro Mascagni on.

Later she turned increasingly to the Wagner subject. In 1948 she sang Isolde in at the Paris Opera Wagner's Tristan und Isolde , at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, she joined in the Nibelungenring as Brünnhilde at the side of Max Lorenz on. In 1953 she took part in the premiere of Jean-Philippe Rameau's Les Indes galantes at the Paris Opera, in 1956 in the world premiere of Henri Tomasis Sampiero Corso .

In 1960 Juyol gave up her career. Of their recordings, a complete recording by Carmen (with Decca Records ) and von Werther (with Urania) should be mentioned.
