Sven Schulze (born July 31, 1979 in Quedlinburg ) is a German politician (CDU). He is a member of the CDU's European Parliament for Saxony-Anhalt and a member of the parliamentary group of the European People's Party (EPP) in the European Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg. He was elected on May 14, 2014 via the state list of the CDU Saxony-Anhalt (list position 1). His mandate in the European Parliament began on July 1, 2014. In the European elections on May 26, 2019, Sven Schulze was re-elected as the only MEP from Saxony-Anhalt. In addition, he has been General Secretary of the CDU Saxony-Anhalt since November 2016. Sven Schulze is married and has three children.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1998 at the Europa-Gymnasium Stephaneum in Aschersleben and subsequent community service, he studied environmental protection technology and industrial engineering at the Clausthal University of Technology from 1999 to 2007 . The graduate industrial engineer Sven Schulze then worked from 2007 to 2011 as a project engineer at two medium-sized mechanical engineering companies in the Harz Mountains and in Baden-Württemberg . From 2012 to 2014 he worked as sales manager at Eckold GmbH & Co. KG in Sankt Andreasberg .

He lives in the municipality of Selke-Aue in Saxony-Anhalt.

Political career

Sven Schulze's political commitment began very early on. From 1998 to 2007 he was an honorary member of the local council of his home town of Heteborn . At the age of 19 he was the youngest member at the time. From 2004 to 2007 Sven Schulze was a member of the Quedlinburg district council. He joined the CDU in 1997. At the same time he also became a member of the Young Union of Saxony-Anhalt, of which he was state chairman from 2006 to 2014. Since 2006 he has also been a member of the state board of the CDU Saxony-Anhalt . From 2011 to 2019 he held the office of chairman of the CDU state committee for federal and European affairs of the CDU Saxony-Anhalt. Sven Schulze has been a member of the federal board of the CDU's SME and Business Association since November 2015 . In November 2016 he was elected the first Secretary General in the history of the CDU Saxony-Anhalt. Since 2019 he has been chairman of the Federal Committee on Europe of the CDU Germany. In addition, Sven Schulze is a member of the SME and Business Association of the CDU Saxony-Anhalt and the Christian-Democratic Workers' Union Saxony-Anhalt.

Activity in the European Parliament

Sven Schulze has been a member of the European Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg since July 1, 2014. By being re-elected in the European elections in May 2019, he is now the only MEP from Saxony-Anhalt. In the current legislative period, Schulze is Vice President of the Committee on Transport and Tourism and a deputy member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and the Petitions Committee . He was also a member of the committee of inquiry set up in December 2016 to investigate violations and irregularities in emissions measurements in the automotive industry and a deputy member of the committee for regional development. Sven Schulze is also a member of the delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China. As an alternate member, he is also part of the delegation for relations with the countries of Southeast Asia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations . Since 2014 he has also been an authorized member of the Committee for European Affairs of the German Bundestag . Sven Schulze is also a member of the Mittelstand Europe parliamentary group of the CDU / CSU group within the EPP group, in the SME Europe ( Small and Medium Entrepreneurs of Europe ) of the EPP group and in the Young Members Network of the EPP group.

Criticism and controversy

Schulze supports the controversial EU copyright reform 2018/2019 , which upload filters and ancillary copyright law contains.
