Every now and then he also plays a theremin during performances , and he operates the looper, a technical auxiliary device with which the musician can record a sequence and accompany himself in order to layer several voices on top of each other. Since his second solo album , van Thom has been playing almost all of the instruments himself. Occasionally he works with the cellist Anne Müller and the singer Larissa Pesch.

Animals stroke people

Martin Gottschild (called Gotti) founded the so-called action reading "Animals petting people" in 2003 and performed in Berlin at irregular intervals for a few years. Sven van Thom was soon there regularly as a musical guest, who contributed one or two songs to the respective evenings. Around 2007, after the end of their band Sofaplanet , Gottschild and van Thom began to develop "Animals petting people" into a monthly event in Berlin. Since then, the two have played this entertainment program alternately with balanced roles: Gottschild reads short stories he wrote himself, and van Thom plays his songs. In 2014 the joint CD "Animals petting people - your greatest successes" was released. A bonus CD called "Five Feet for a Hallelujah" was included with the sound carrier. Gottschild and van Thom wrote the radio play musical of the same name together with the Berlin musician Matthias Schrei, also known as the recorder of death . The three went on tour together under the name "Five Feet for a Hallelujah".

"Animals petting people" continue to perform successfully in various cities in Germany and were able to increase their awareness, especially in the eastern part of the country, through their radio presence.

Radio columns

From January 2014 to April 2016, Sven van Thom and Martin Gottschild produced the weekly radio section "Animals petting people" for radioEins , which was broadcast on Fridays as part of the program "Die Schöne Woche". In it they used recordings of their joint live performances as well as studio recordings of van Thom's songs. When Gottschild started to present the program RadioZwei (also on radioEins) together with Tommy Wosch in May 2016, van Thom took on the task of writing and recording a song about current affairs every week, which was called "Pudding with Hairstyle" within the program was broadcast. Between May 2016 and July 2018, more than 80 songs were created that deal with the topics of politics, gossip and the bizarre. In January 2017 Sven van Thom released the CD "Pudding with Hairstyle, Part 1". This includes all 27 songs that he produced for his radio column in 2016. In February 2018 the double album "Pudding with Hairstyle, Part 2" with all 40 radio songs from 2017 will follow.
