Svenja Schlicht

Svenja Schlicht (born June 26, 1967 in Neumünster ) is a former German swimmer who competed for the Federal Republic of Germany . In 1984 she won an Olympic silver medal in the individual medley.

Svenja Schlicht began her career in Lower Saxony at SV Nienhagen ( district of Celle ) and moved to Hamburg in 1985 for Eimsbütteler TV . At the age of 14, she won her first championship title on the 200-meter back course in 1981 . From 1983 to 1988 and again in 1990 Svenja Schlicht was German champion over 100 meters and over 200 meters back, and she won other titles in swimming medley. At the European Championships in Rome she was fourth over 100 meters back, sixth over 200 meters back and she won bronze in the individual relay relay.

At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles , Schlicht was sixth over 100 meters and over 200 meters back. The layer relay made up of Svenja Schlicht, Ute Hasse , Ina Beyermann and Karin Seick reached second place behind the US relay. At the 1986 World Swimming Championships in Madrid , Schlicht finished fifth on the 100-meter course and eighth over 200 meters. In 1987 at the European Championships in Strasbourg , Schlicht won bronze in all three seasons, over 100 meters back she came second behind Kristin Otto from the GDR. Over 200 meters back she swam bronze behind Cornelia Sirch and Kathrin Zimmermann , both also from the GDR.

In Seoul at the 1988 Olympic Games , Schlicht was second in the B final, tenth over 100 meters back; on the 200-meter course she reached the final and was eighth. With the tier relay, she reached seventh place in Seoul. At the end of her career, Svenja Schlicht won bronze again at the 1991 World Swimming Championships in Perth with the layer relay made up of Svenja Schlicht, Jana Dörries , Susanne Müller and Manuela Stellmach .

For her services to sport in Lower Saxony , she was included in the Lower Saxony Sports Honor Gallery of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History.
