Sverre Malvin Stensheim (born October 31, 1933 in Oppdal ) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier .

Career

Stensheim, who started for the Idrettslaget Snøhetta , made his first international appearance at the 1954 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun . There he finished 39th over 15 km. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1958 , he came in 27th place over 50 km. In March 1959 he won the 50 km run at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival for the first time and received the Aftenposten gold medal for it in the same year . At the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley , he achieved 20th place over 30 km and tenth place over 50 km. In March 1960, as in the previous year, he won the 50 km run at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival and received the Holmenkollen Medal for it . He also finished second behind Arto Tiainen in the 50 km run at the Lahti Ski Games . The following year he came third at the Lahti Ski Games over 15 km and won the 50 km run at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival for the third time in a row. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane in 1962 , he achieved 13th place over 30 km and 11th place over 50 km. In March 1962 he won the Lahti Ski Games over 50 km and took fifth place over 50 km at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. At the Lahti Ski Games in 1963, he finished second over 50 km. At his last Olympic participation in Innsbruck in 1964 he finished 11th over 30 km and fifth over 50 km. In early March 1964 he took third place over 15 km at the Lahti Ski Games. His last international appearance was at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1966 . There he achieved 13th place over 50 km. At Norwegian championships he won twice over 30 km (1959, 1960) and also took second place nine times and third place five times.
