Sylvain Freiholz (born November 23, 1974 in Le Brassus ) is a former Swiss ski jumper . He jumped for the SC Le Brassus .

Career

Freiholz made his debut in the Ski Jumping World Cup as a 16-year-old on December 2, 1990 in Lake Placid and immediately reached 27th place. A week later, he was fifth in Thunder Bay , and at the Four Hills Tournament that year he was eighth overall . In the following years Freiholz was one of the world's top ski jumpers.

At the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville he reached the 24th place on the small hill and 14th place on the large hill; in Vuokatti , Finland , he was junior vice world champion behind Toni Nieminen in the same year . For this success, the Swiss Sports Aid Foundation recognized him as the Swiss Young Athlete of the Year 1992. He achieved his best World Cup placement the following winter; in Engelberg he came second.

In the following years he was rarely in the top ranks in the World Cup, but was always in good shape at World Championships . In 1995 he reached fourth place on the normal hill in Thunder Bay ; In 1997 in Trondheim he was seventh on the normal hill and won the bronze medal on the large hill. In the following years, however, he was unable to build on these successes.

At the national level Freiholz won seven titles in Swiss championships. He ended his career after the winter of 2002/03. Today the qualified microelectronics technician works in his hometown Le Brassus as a watchmaker for his long-term sponsor Audemars Piguet .
