The Synod of Frankfurt was a church assembly that took place on November 1, 1007 .

The synod was convened by King Heinrich II in order to obtain the approval of the bishops for the establishment of the Bamberg diocese from parts of the Würzburg and Eichstätt dioceses . The 35 participants included not only German, but also Burgundian, Hungarian and Italian church princes. The Würzburg bishop Heinrich was not present, but was represented. The Archbishop of Mainz , Willigis , chaired the meeting as the Pope's deputy.

Whenever Henry II feared a negative attitude from the synod, he threw himself at the assembly's feet and, with this footfall, forced renewed deliberations. At the synod, Eberhard, the king's chancellor, was ordained by the Archbishop of Mainz Willigis as head shepherd of the new border bishopric. Also at the Synod, rich donations were made to the diocese in order to put it on a solid economic basis. The area of the new diocese included u. a. the royal towns of Forchheim , Fürth and Hallstadt .
