The Kettwig Sturzquelle , also known as the Turks Spring , is a spring in Essen-Kettwig on the left side of the Kettwiger See on the Ruhr . It is located on Werdener Strasse (L 442) to Essen-Werden .

description

Source, April 2011

The water comes from the walled opening of a rock wall formed by clay slate and sandstone and pours over an approximately five meter high, moss-covered waterfall into a small basin that is accessible from the road. The water then crosses under the street in a sewer pipe and ends up in the Ruhr. At the source, a footpath leads up the steep slope overgrown with beech along some quarries.

The source has no official name. Since it is said to have been visited by Turkish citizens from far and wide in particular since the 1960s to fill bottles, it is called the Turk's Spring . The water is used for drinking and making tea.

The origin is unclear. There is a presumption that it is surface water from the pastures on the “Am Timpen” road and that it is not suitable for drinking. According to other voices, the source is to be fed by an escape tunnel in Friedrich Flick's former country estate , the Charlottenhof , which served as the headquarters of the Ruhr staff during World War II .

The source is entered with the waterfall in the list of natural monuments in Essen .
