TKKG - Every legend has its beginning is a German feature film by the director Robert Thalheim from 2019. The film was released on June 6, 2019 in German cinemas.

action

Two very different boys, Tim and Willi, called Klößchen, get to know each other on the first day of school at the boarding school. Willi, the son of a large manufacturer from a good family, is not exactly happy to share a room with Tim, a scholarship holder and ambitious athlete who grew up in precarious circumstances in the suburbs.

When Klößchen's father is kidnapped and is only supposed to be released for a valuable statue from his art collection, Tim is the only one who thinks Willi that the police are on the wrong track. Together with the smart police daughter Gaby and the highly intelligent outsider Karl, they begin to investigate on their own. Against all odds, the four uncover a conspiracy. In the course of their first big detective adventure, they grow together into a tight-knit community, and Tim, Klößchen, Karl and Gaby become the TKKG gang.

production

Directed by Robert Thalheim . The youth book series TKKG was adapted for the film by Thalheim together with Peer Klehmet, the scriptwriter of the Five Friends films. After Ein Fall für TKKG: Drachenauge from 1992 and TKKG - The Secret of the Enigmatic Mind Machine by Tomy Wigand from 2006, this is the third feature film based on the youth book series. Justus Riesenkampff from Delta Film, who holds the film rights and who produced the film alongside Thalheim and Dirk G. Engelhardt, also had an exciting content approach for the new edition, according to the director. Since the TKKG books and radio games are mainly set in the 1980s, an attempt was made to create a world of its own for the film: “ TKKG is set in the now, but is full of allusions to the 80s, when you as an adult viewer TKKG would be located ”, says Thalheim. In the film, some radio play episodes are cut. There would be: the hunt for the millionaire thieves, the empty grave in the moor, the blind clairvoyant, fear in the 9a, the phantom on the fire chair.

The Filmstiftung NRW funded the production with 400,000 euros.

The songs are from SDP . The song Der Beste Tag Ever was written especially for the film by the Berlin band and was released at the same time as it was released in theaters. For the film music, Thalheim relied on synthesizer sound, as can be heard in the film music of the 1980s, in the TKKG radio plays or in the series Stranger Things .

The premiere took place on June 2, 2019 in Essen's Lichtburg. A theatrical release in Germany took place on June 6, 2019. The radio play for the film was released by Europe on June 7, 2019 as CD, download and streaming.

continuation

The second part was already being developed parallel to the filming of TKKG . In it, the magician Santini is said to be the opponent of TKKG.

reception

Age rating

In Germany the film was approved by the FSK from the age of 6. The statement of reasons for the release states that in a colorful and fast-paced production, the film combines elements of children's and adventure films with crime thriller elements and lots of humor. The clearly typified characters and lovingly exaggerated elements made the events clearly recognizable as fictional, but individual dark passages could overwhelm children of preschool age.

Use in school lessons

The online portal kinofenster.de recommends the film for the subjects German, general knowledge, ethics and religion. Reinhard Kleber writes there that in the classroom it would be obvious to compare the narrative structures and key motifs in the adaptations of TKKG material from books to films, radio plays, TV, comics to games. In addition, comparisons with literary and cinematic children's thrillers such as Emil and the Detectives or Five Friends could provide information about dramaturgical patterns and figure constellations typical of the genre.

Gross profit

In Germany, the film has so far recorded 248,232 visitors.

Awards

TKKG was included in the pre-selection of eight children's films for the German Film Award at the beginning of January 2020 , but was not taken into account when the regular nominations were announced. Further awards below.
