TV.com is a website owned by CBS Interactive ( CBS Corporation ). The site includes television and focuses on English language programs broadcast or broadcast in Australia, Canada, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, the United States and the United Kingdom. It emphasizes user-generated content . Australia and UK versions of the website are also available on au.tv.com and uk.tv.com, respectively.

history

CNET originally acquired the domain name (among other generic domain names such as news.com, radio.com etc.) in the mid-1990s to host a website for the company. One of these shows was titled TV.com . The program, highlighting the best of the internet for new and casual computer users, aired on the US Syndication.

CNET then acquired TV Tome , a fan-run TV database. TV.com was released on June 1, 2005 a few months after the acquisition . Much of the features and content from the original TV Tome website has been maintained on the new TV.com website.

On May 15, 2008 , CBS announced its acquisition of CNET Networks and the company changed its name to CBS Interactive.

TV.com has continued to innovate the television experience by integrating it with technology as seen with the creation of WatchList. This service offered personalized TV lists influenced by user actions and social media that eventually carried over to the creation of TV.com Relay.

properties

TV.com offers show descriptions, cast and crew lists, full episodes, clip length videos, discussion forums, and extensive episode guides for many shows. Episode guides may include synopsis information, a summary, credits, notes, trivia, quotes, and images provided by the networks. All text information in the guides is generated by the user.

Users earn points for participating. After a user earns a certain number of points, he / she becomes the editor of the guide and can moderate user submissions.

The website provides actor guides that include actor bios, credits, trivia and quotes, pictures, forums, and related messages. Like show pages, users can become editors for these guides after earning points by providing native content.

In addition to the user-defined database for TV information, TV.com creates original editorial content and special features for notable TV events such as comic-con, season finals, shows, pre- and holidays.

Mobile app

The website's mobile application enables users to stream video content, including clips and full-length episodes, directly to their device.

Relay

TV.com Relay is a social TV check-in application that is available over mobile networks and the web. Users can see what their friends are watching in shows they are watching, participate in discussions, and earn badges to review.
