Tadej Valjavec

Tadej Valjavec (born April 13, 1977 in Kranj ) is a former Slovenian cyclist .

Career

Valjavec won the U23 edition of the Giro d'Italia , the Baby Giro , in 1999 . He then got a contract with the Italian cycling team Fassa Bortolo . In his first year he was third in the Midi Libre . Three years later he became Slovenian road champion before joining the Swiss Phonak Cycling Team . There he took part in the ProTour in 2005 and was sixth overall in the Germany Tour .

Since 2006 he has been driving for the Italian racing team Lampre-Fondital . His best placement at the Giro d'Italia in 2004 was ninth. He also finished second on a stage in 2005 . He took part in the Tour de France for the first time in 2006 and reached 17th place. After a weak 2007 season with an unsuccessful Tour de France , he moved to Ag2r .

At the beginning of May 2010 Valjavec was suspended by the World Cycling Federation Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) because of abnormal blood values and disciplinary proceedings were initiated against him. In October 2010 he was acquitted of the doping charge due to a lack of evidence.

On April 22, 2011 it was announced that he had been banned by CAS for two years retrospectively from January 20, 2011. He also had to pay a road of 52,000 euros and his results between April 19 and September 30, 2009 were canceled.

At the end of the 2013 season he ended his career as a professional cyclist.
