Taizō Yokoyama
Taizō Yokoyama ( Japanese 横山 泰 三 , Yokoyama Taizō ; born February 28, 1917 in Kōchi Prefecture , Japan ; † June 10, 2007 in Kanagawa Prefecture , Japan) was a Japanese comic artist and caricaturist .
Yokoyama started his career as a professional draftsman in the post-war period, influenced by his older brother Ryūichi , who was also a comic artist.
In 1950 he landed with the comic strip series Pūsan ( プ ー サ ン ), which he created for the Mainichi Shimbun newspaper , his first success. For Pūsan he received the Kikuchi Kan Prize in 1954 . Kon Ichikawa implemented Yokoyama's stories about Pūsan as a real film in 1953. In 1954 the draftsman began his cartoon series Shakai Gihyō ( 社会 戯 評 ). For 39 years, until 1992, he drew over 13,500 caricatures for this series for the Asahi Shimbun newspaper .
He died in 2007 at the age of 90 years at a pneumonia .
